10 Culinary Star Judges this Year

Judge #1  Culinary Star Alli Jarrett 
of Harold's in the Heights. Alli is a Heights Fan Favorite - bringing her culinary chops & artisan cocktails to 19th Street in the Heights. 

JUDGE #2 - David Leftwich 
a Houston-based writer, editor, and poet. Co-founder and executive editor of Sugar & Rice, a Gulf Coast food and culture journal.
Co-host of the Full Menu, a monthly discussion about Houston-area restaurants and bars that can be heard on Houston Public Media's Houston Matters.
His work on the intersection of food, culture, immigration, and history has appeared in the Houston Chronicle, Sugar & Rice, Edible Houston, Food+City, Cite, and Houston Food Finder .
Judge #3 Levi Rollins 
 Culinary Director / co-owner of Urban Eats bistro+bar+market. Levi is a Heights Fan Favorite! From sweet to savory -- Levi creates delicious and warm hospitality in his neighborhood place on Washington Avenue in the Heights.
Judge #4 - WILD CARD 
one guest will be chosen from the audience to join the esteemed panel 
of Culinary Star Pie Judges

JUDGE #5 Emily Ferrara
owner of Orange Artichoke Kitchen. Charming bungalow on 19th specializing in prepared meals available for pickup after 2pm the next day. Menu changes weekly. New menus are available every Saturday for the following week.
JUDGE #6 - Bobby Jucker 
owner of Three Brothers Bakery. Creator of the Pumpecapple Piecake featured on Food Network’s Outrageous Food. His pecan pie is featured in Town & Country Magazine, Bon Appétit and Southern Weddings. His Key Lime Pie won the 2017 National Pie Championship in Florida!

JUDGE #7 - Maureen Demar Hall With her life-long interest in food and entertaining, Maureen Demar Hall has shared her culinary skills with friends across Houston and especially in the Heights for more than 30 years. Now that she has become happily retired, she has expanded her interests in fine wine (she has an impressive collection) and high-end dining, and is always ready to visit the newest restaurant, try a new recipe, or share hers with others. Her skills with pie have already been recognized, as she won last year’s competition in the “Savory” category with her delicious tomato pie with an herb crust!

JUDGE #8 Gregory M. Buchold 
Heights Fan Favorite, and legacy Heights Great American Pie Judge - Greg brings cultivated culinary know-how to insure the contest runs perfectly. He is an expert on national pie contests which he shares through his blog is responsible for the beautiful images of your Heights Great American Pie entries shared far and wide online and the media.

JUDGE #9 Jessica Lusk  
Red Dessert Dive
Owner Jessical Lusk iterally eats desserts for a living! She traveled the world to perform totally pertinent “sugar research”. Her takeaway : You must bake fresh daily, You must use the highest quality ingredients (and freshest fruit) available for made-from-scratch desserts.

Why the Name?
Her Mammaw was a fiery red-head whom my Pappaw lovingly referred to as Red. I decided to honor her in the naming of this business because she made desserts like nobody I know, and I ate them like nobody I know!
Red is filled with goodness, fun, love, and lots of passion.
